Apple to keep iTunes song downloads priced at 99 cents each.
by Krista Desens CUPERTINO, CA [Wednesday May.3.2006] /RedBoxCode.com/ -- Apple Computer has won the latest download price war. According to Reuters.com, Apple said on Tuesday that it had successfully renewed contracts with the world's four biggest record companies (EMI, Sony BMG, Universal and Warner Music) and that Apple will to continue to sell songs on iTunes at 99 cents each. The victory came after a long battle between the two sides. With the exception of Universal, all the labels had attempted to end iTunes' flat-rate pricing scheme, arguing for variable pricing, depending on the artist and release date. Apple Chief Executive Steve Jobs has said that making songs available for a single price was crucial in helping to prevent the illegal downloading that has plagued the music industry.
