SAN DIEGO, CA  [Thursday Aug.26.2004]  /RedBoxCode.com/ -- In an interview with www.concerthype.com, Yellowcard vocalist and guitarist Ryan Key was asked what he bought with his first big paycheck. Turns out he only bought one thing -- a brand new Volkswagen R32.

Says Key, "I bought a new car, that’s the first thing, that’s the only thing I bought. I still rent a room at a buddy’s house, and I live pretty small-time. Trying to save all my money because I want to buy a house back in Florida."

Key got a new car because he'd been driving his sister's Ford Focus around. He'd long ago traded in all his own cars for the band's touring van.

He explains, "My sister had graduated with like a 4.2 from high school, so my dad bought her a new truck. And she had had the same Ford Focus since like she was 16...I was driving the van for like three years, and then when my sister graduated, my Dad gave me her car." Clarifies Key, "Well, actually, I had to buy it. But he gave it to me for like five grand or something like that. So I...paid that car off and then went and bought a new car which pretty much ate up my first paycheck."
