Modest Mouse and Yellowcard are up for Best Band, along with Taking Back Sunday, Something Corporate and Wilco. Modest Mouse is also nominated in the Best Album category for "Good News for People Who Love Bad News." The band faces competition from Yellowcard ("Ocean Avenue"), Franz Ferdinand ("Franz Ferdinand"), Taking Back Sunday ("Where You Want To Be") and Norah Jones ("Feels Like Home").

Artists in the running for the Hip-Hop Award include Kanye West, The Black Eyed Peas, The Roots, Danger Mouse and Dizzee Rascal.
