Band Aid 20 Re-Records Xmas Classic
Song features Keane, Bono, Chris Martin, Paul McCartney.

by Krista Desens

LONDON, UK  [Wednesday Nov.17.2004]  /RedBoxCode.com/ -- Last weekend in London, stars of the UK music scene gathered to re-record the 1984 holiday classic, "Do They Know It's Christmas." The new version is known as the "Band Aid 20" single because it was created 20 years after the original recording that raised money for African famine relief.

British trio Keane, Paul McCartney, Coldplay's Chris Martin and U2's Bono were among the artists to take part. Dizzee Rascal, Travis, The Thrills, Dido, Robbie Williams, Joss Stone and The Darkness' Justin Hawkins also contributed vocal tracks.

Among the musicians to play on the song were Radiohead's Thom Yorke on piano, Paul McCartney on bass, and The Darkness' Justin and Dan Hawkins on guitars.

And in case you're wondering, London radio station XFM confirms that Bono flew into London on Sunday night to re-record his legendary line, "Well tonight thank God it's them, instead of you."

The single is set for release on November 29 in the UK and will be available as an import in the US. All proceeds go to The Band Aid Trust to combat famine in Africa. The funds raised will help those in the Dafur region of Sudan. Band Aid is the brain child of Sir Bob Geldof.
