LOS ANGELES, CA  [Friday Nov.25.2005]  /RedBoxCode.com/ -- The Black Eyed Peas, Green Day, Destiny's Child, Kelly Clarkson and Tim McGraw were the big winners at Tuesday night's American Music Awards held in Los Angeles.

Each of these artists scored two awards each, with the Black Eyed Peas taking home the Favorite Group trophies in both the Pop/Rock and Rap/Hip-Hop categories. Green Day's "American Idiot" won Favorite Pop/Rock Album, while Green Day was named Favorite Alternative Music Artist.

Destiny's Child earned awards for Favorite Soul/R&B Group and Favorite Soul/R&B Album. Kelly Rowland collected the trophies on the trio's behalf saying, "I miss my girls. Beyoncé and Michelle, wherever you are, I love you so much."

"Since U Been Gone" singer Kelly Clarkson won the Favorite Adult Contemporary Artist honor, along with the T-Mobile Text-In Award.

In the country category, Tim McGraw scooped up the awards for Favorite Male Artists and also won Favorite Album for his "Live Like You Were Dying" disc.

A surprised Gwen Stefani picked up the Pop/Rock Favorite Female Artist honor, while Mariah Carey won for Favorite Female Artist in the Soul/R&B category. The Rap/Hip-Hop Favorite Female Artist went to Missy Elliot.

Other artists who won an American Music Award this year include Kelly Clarkson, Will Smith, R. Kelly, Eminem, Shakira, 50 Cent, Gretchen Wilson, and Brooks & Dunn.

Country group Sugarland edged out The Killers and Jesse McCartney to take home the cross-genre, Favorite New Artist award.

The American Music Awards nominees were selected based on retail sales and radio airplay. The winners were chosen based on a survey of about 20,000 listeners.
