NEW YORK, NY  [Friday Dec.9.2005]  /RedBoxCode.com/ -- On Thursday, December 8th, the National Academy of Recording Arts & Sciences announced the nominees for the 48th annual Grammy Awards.

The nominees in the General Category represent a diverse group of established and new artists across all genres.

Nominees for Album of the Year are Mariah Carey's "The Emancipation Of Mimi"; Paul McCartney's "Chaos And Creation In The Backyard"; Gwen Stefani's "Love. Angel. Music. Baby."; U2's "How To Dismantle An Atomic Bomb"; and Kanye West's "Late Registration."

Record Of The Year contenders include "We Belong Together" by Mariah Carey, "Feel Good Inc." by the Gorillaz featuring De La Soul, "Boulevard Of Broken Dreams" by Green Day, "Hollaback Girl" by Gwen Stefani, and "Gold Digger" by Kanye West.

The Best New Artist category featured a wide-ranging group of nominees including R&B singer Ciara, emo rockers Fall Out Boy, Brit pop trio Keane, soul singer John Legend, and country group SugarLand.

The nominees for Song Of The Year also span various genres and include "Bless The Broken Road" (performed by Rascal Flatts); Bruce Springsteen for "Devils & Dust"; William Adams (Will.i.am of The Black Eyed Peas) & J. Stephens (John Legend) for "Ordinary People" (performed by John Legend); U2 for "Sometimes You Can't Make It On Your Own"; and J. Austin, Mariah Carey, Jermaine Dupri, & Manuel Seal for "We Belong Together" (performed by Mariah Carey).
