NEW YORK, NY  [Friday Dec.9.2005]  /RedBoxCode.com/ -- The "Rock" nominees for the 48th annual Grammy Awards were announced yesterday (December 8th) in New York City, and the Foo Fighters, Coldplay, U2 and Franz Ferdinand are among the contenders.

Foo Fighters, Coldplay and U2 will face off for Best Rock Album, Best Rock Performance By A Duo Or Group with Vocal, and Best Rock Song. The Rolling Stones and Neil Young also earned a nomination for Best Rock Album, while Franz Ferdinand and the Killers round out the nominees for Best Rock Performance By A Duo or Group with Vocal.

In the Best Rock Song category -- an award given to the songwriter -- the other nominees include Rivers Cuomo for Weezer's hit single "Beverly Hills" and Bruce Springsteen for "Devils & Dust."

Neil Young also earned a Grammy nomination for Best Solo Rock Vocal Performance for his song "The Painter." Rob Thomas, Bruce Springsteen, Eric Clapton and Robert Plant also received nods in this category.

Franz Ferdinand, Death Cab For Cutie, the White Stripes, Beck and The Arcade Fire will duke it out for Best Alternative Music Album. The Best Hard Rock Performance category is a toss-up between Audioslave, Nine Inch Nails, Robert Plant, Queens of the Stone Age, and System of A Down.
