Alicia Keys, Mariah Carey, Gorillaz earn R&B Grammy nods.
by Krista Desens ![]() NEW YORK, NY [Monday Dec.12.2005] /RedBoxCode.com/ -- Alicia Keys, Mariah Carey, and the Gorillaz are among the "R&B" nominees for the 48th annual Grammy Awards. Keys and Carey are both nominated for Best Female R&B Vocal Performance, Best Traditional R&B Vocal Performance, and Best R&B Song. Other Best Female R&B Vocal Performance nominees include Amerie, Beyonce and Fantasia, and additional contenders for Best Traditional R&B Vocal Performance include Aretha Franklin, Fantasia and John Legend. In the Best R&B Song category (an award given to the songwriter), Carey and Keys face competition from Destiny's Child, John Legend, and Fantasia. Cartoon band the Gorillaz were honored with a nomination for Best Urban/Alternative Performance for their song "Dirty Harry," featuring West Coast rapper Bootie Brown from The Pharcyde. Floetry, Damian Marley, Mos Def and Van Hunt round out the nominees in this category. Jamie Foxx, John Legend, Mario, Usher, and Stevie Wonder are up for Best Male R&B Vocal Performance, and the nominees for Best R&B Performance By A Duo Or Group With Vocals include Beyonce & Stevie Wonder; Destiny's Child; Alicia Keys and Jermaine Paul; John Legend and Lauryn Hill; and Stevie Wonder and Aisha Morris. Earth Wind and Fire, Fantasia, Alicia Keys, John Legend and Stevie Wonder earned nods for Best R&B Album, while Amerie, Mariah Carey, Destiny's Child, Mario and Omarion earned nominations for Best "Contemporary" R&B Album.
