by Krista Desens ![]() CUPERTINO, CA [Monday Feb.27.2006] /RedBoxCode.com/ -- Apple's iTunes Music Store reached a massive music milestone last Thursday, selling its billionth downloadable song. Alex Ostrovsky of West Bloomfield, Michigan purchased the billionth song from iTunes and was rewarded with a grand prize that included a 20-inch iMac, 10 fifth-generation iPods, and a $10,000 Music Card good for any item on the iTunes Music Store. Along with these items, Apple is establishing a scholarship to the famous Julliard School in Ostrovsky's name. The billionth song sold at the iTunes Music Store was Coldplay's "Speed of Sound" from the band's latest album "X&Y." "I hope that every customer, artist, and music company executive takes a moment…to reflect on what we've achieved together during the past three years," said Steve Jobs, Apple's CEO, in a statement. "Over one billion songs have now been legally purchased and downloaded around the globe, representing a major force against music piracy and the future of music distribution as we move from CDs to the Internet."
